Scholarships and Awards
Scholarships are available in three categories:
Honor-Awards: Honor-Awards are conferred to the top student in the College of Business (Spolum Award) as well as each major (Accounting/Accountancy, MIS, and Business Administration). Award recipient selection is based on academic merit and service to college/university/community. An essay is required as part of the application (1000 words).
Merit-Based Awards: Merit-Award selection is based on the criteria relevant to each scholarship. Some awards require an essay.
Need-Based Awards: Need-Based award selection is based on financial need. Applicants must provide documented financial information demonstrating need.
Premier Honor Award: ROBERT N. SPOLUM SCHOLARSHIP - $5000
Selection for this award is not based solely on GPA, but rather on a combination of application, GPA, and record of service to the college, university, and/or community.
Applicants must:
- Be properly enrolled in the NDSU College of Business at the time of disbursement.
- Submit a complete application, resume, and essay.
Management, Marketing and Finance Department
Top Department Honor Award: GORDON HELLER SCHOLARSHIP - $1,220
Open to sophomores, juniors and seniors; selection is based on proven scholarship, leadership, active participation at NDSU, and the potential to make a special contribution to the field of business.
Applicants Must:
- Be properly enrolled in the NDSU College of Business at the time of disbursement.
- Submit a complete application, resume, and essay demonstrating proven leadership and active participation at NDSU.
Accounting and Information Systems Department
Top Accounting Honor Award: THOMAS KANE & ANTON LEE MEMORIAL ACCOUNTING SCHOLARSHIP – $1,450
Applicants Must:
- Be majoring in Accounting/Accountancy
- Be properly enrolled in the NDSU College of Business.
- Submit a complete application, resume, and documented financial information demonstrating need.
Top MIS Honor Award: Microsoft Scholarship-Sponsored by Microsoft Fargo
$2,500 (2 Scholarships)
Applicants must:
- Be properly enrolled in the College of Business at the time of application and disbursement
- Be a junior or senior pursuing a major or minor in Management Information Systems.
- Have a record of superior academic performance
- Have a record of service to the college, university, and/or the community.
- Submit essay detailing your college, university and community involvement.
- Agree to give Microsoft the right to review your scholarship application information and resume.
- Agree to attend a luncheon and facility tour at Microsoft's Fargo location (for all top applicants).
Merit-Based Awards:
AIS Department Scholarship - Amount Varies
Applicants must:
- Be majoring in Accounting, Accountancy, or Management Information Systems.
- Be accepted into the professional program at the time of application.
- Have a GPA of 3.25 or higher.
- Demonstrate activities that reflect positively on the Account and Information Systems Department and its programs. Such activities may reflect leadership; community volunteerism; active participation in professional, community, or university organizations; and other activities.
ASSOCIATES 2000 SCHOLARSHIP $600
Applicants must:
- Be properly enrolled in the NDSU College of Business at the time of disbursement.
- Submit a complete application, resume, and transcript.
HAROLD H. AND DORIS E. BERG Scholarship - Amount to be announced
Preference is given to students with an interest in credit management and analysis.
Applicants must:
- Be properly enrolled in the NDSU College of Business at the time of disbursement.
- Be a sophomore in the College of Business.
- Submit a complete application, resume, transcript and essay detailing your interest in credit management and analysis.
- Submit essay detailing your interest in credit management and analysis.
CAROL BERGLOF MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP -$500
Applicants must:
- Be properly enrolled in the NDSU College of Business at the time of disbursement.
- Be a junior in the College of Business taking classes in insurance or insurance related study, or have a strong interest in insurance.
- Have a GPA of 2.75 or higher.
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Submit a complete application, resume, and transcript.
- If selected, submit a personal biography along with your thoughts about the insurance industry to the ND Rough Rider Chapter Society of the CPCU.
- Submit essay detailing your thoughts on the insurance industry.
EVELYN M. CAMPBELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $490
Preference is given to women applicants.
Applicants must:
- Be properly enrolled in the NDSU College of Business at the time of disbursement.
- Be a junior or senior.
- A legal resident of North Dakota, preferably female.
- Have a GPA of 2.75 or better.
- Submit a complete application, resume, and transcript.
COLE SCHOLARSHP (FM Area Foundation) - $400
Applicants must:
- Be properly enrolled in the NDSU College of Business at the time of disbursement.
- Submit a complete application, resume, and transcript.
COLLEGE OF BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIP - $1,120
Applicants must:
- Be properly enrolled in the NDSU College of Business at the time of disbursement.
- Be majoring in Business Administration
- Be a legal resident of North Dakota.
- Have a GPA of 2.75 or better.
- Submit a complete application, resume, and transcript.
COMMUNITY FIRST NATIONAL BANK SCHOLARSHIP - $380
Applicants must:
- Be properly enrolled in the NDSU College of Business at the time of disbursement.
- Submit a complete application, resume, and transcript.
JAMES DAWSON BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIP - $400
Applicants must:
- Be properly enrolled in the NDSU College of Business at the time of disbursement.

EIDE BAILLY ACCOUNTING SCHOLARSHIP - $1000
Applicants must:
- Be properly enrolled in the NDSU College of Business at the time of disbursement.
- Must be a junior or senior majoring in Accounting/Accountancy
- Submit a complete application, resume, and transcript.
PHILLIP W. FARNHAM SCHOLARSHIP - $900 (may continue for 3 years, if eligible each year)
Applicants must:
- Be properly enrolled in the NDSU College of Business at the time of disbursement.
- Must be a North Dakota resident.
- Must be a sophomore with an outstanding record as a freshman.
- Parents earnings are average or less or in the middle and lower income group.
- Submit a complete application, resume, and transcript.
PAUL GLATT SCHOLARSHIP - $500
Applicants must:
- Be properly enrolled in the NDSU College of Business at the time of disbursement.

GOOD EFFORT ACCOUNTING SCHOLARSHIP - $150
Applicants must:
- Be properly enrolled in the NDSU College of Business at the time of disbursement.
- Be majoring in Accounting/Accountancy

CHUCK HALL ACCOUNTING SCHOLARSHIP - $ 500
Preference is given to students who have shown an interest in a career in Public Accounting.
Applicants Must:
- Be properly enrolled in the NDSU College of Business at the time of disbursement.
- Be a junior or senior with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
THE HEARTLAND TRUST SCHOLARSHIP - $1000
Applicants must:
- Be a junior or senior enrolled in a major course of study in the College of Business.
- Be an active member of the NDSU chapter of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.
- Be active in extra curricular activities.
- Have a GPA of 2.5 or above.
GERALDINE B. LARSON SCHOLARSHIP - $250 - $750 amounts vary; (10 or more scholarships)
Applicants must:
- Be properly enrolled in the NDSU College of Business at the time of disbursement.
- Be majoring in Business Administration.
- Submit a complete application, resume, and transcript.
LARSONALLEN LLP ACCOUNTING SCHOLARSHIP - $1000
Applicants must:
- Be properly enrolled in the NDSU College of Business at the time of disbursement.
- Must be a junior or senior majoring in Accounting/Accountancy.
- Must plan to enter the field of public accounting.
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.5.
- Submit a complete application, resume, and transcript.
- Submit essay on this question: "Explain what it means to you to respect others, and how do you demonstrate this respect in your day to day activities? How do you show respect to someone who may not necessarily show you respect in return?"
VERNE MILDE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $230
Applicants must:
- Be properly enrolled in the NDSU College of Business at the time of disbursement.
- Must be majoring in Accounting/Accountancy or Business Administration.
- Be from the northern plains region and show some financial need.
- Submit a complete application, resume, transcript, and documented financial need.
CORPORATE TECHNOLOGIES/MULTIBAND, INC. SCHOLARSHIP - $400
Applicants must:
- Be a Bison athlete pursuing a major in the College of Business.
- Be properly enrolled in the NDSU College of Business at the time of disbursement.

CLIFTON OSTER SCHOLARSHIP - $500
Applicants must:
- Be properly enrolled in the NDSU College of Business at the time of disbursement.

EUGENE AND OTILLIA PETTEE SCHOLOARSHIP – $750 - $1150; amounts vary (10 or more scholarships)

RSM MCGLADREY/MCGLADREY & PULLEN, LLP ACCOUNTING SCHOLARSHIP - $1000
Applicants must:

- Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

IRWIN R. RECTOR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $475
Applicants must:
- Be properly enrolled in the NDSU College of Business at the time of disbursement.
- Be majoring in MIS (Management Information Systems).
- Have a GPA of 3.25 or higher.

BOB AND JANE TOMLINSON THOMPSON SCHOLARSHIP - $1000
Applicants must:
- Be properly enrolled in the NDSU College of Business at the time of disbursement.
- Be “basically putting yourself through college with minimal family support.”
- Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Submit a complete application, resume, transcript, and documented self-support.
JACK THOMPSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $1,000 (4)
To assist student(s) who demonstrate the characteristics which Jack Thompson held in high regard: personal integrity, ethics, character and determination to succeed through hard work.
Applicants must:
- Be properly enrolled in the NDSU College of Business at the time of disbursement.
- Submit a complete application and resume.
- Submit an essay demonstrating your own adherence to Jack Thompson's characteristics.
US BANCORP PRIVATE CLIENT GROUP SCHOLARSHIP - $125
Applicants must:
- Be properly enrolled in the NDSU College of Business at the time of disbursement.
- Exhibit a high academic profile.
- Submit a complete application, resume, transcript.
WINSTON AND JACQUELYN WALLACE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $400
Applicants must:
- Be properly enrolled in the NDSU College of Business at the time of disbursement.
- Have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

WEST ACRES DEVELOPMENT SCHOLARSHIP - $800
Applicants must:
- Be properly enrolled in the NDSU College of Business at the time of disbursement.
- Be majoring in Business Administration.
- Submit a complete application, resume, and transcript.
TIM F. YUNKER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $160
Applicants must:
- Be properly enrolled in the NDSU College of Business at the time of disbursement.
- Submit a complete application, resume, and transcript.
NORTH DAKOTA CPA SOCIETY R.D. KOPPENHAVER SCHOLARSHIPS
assist senior accounting/accountancy students planning to sit for the CPA exam within the year. NOTE: Students who have accepted positions with firms that reimburse for CPA exam costs are not illegible.
Scholarship award amounts noted on the application are based on the available funds from the last academic year. Amounts will vary from year to year.
Students selected to receive any CoB scholarship must agree to the following requirements. Failure to do so will result in the loss of the scholarship.
- Attend the one of the two scheduled scholarship meetings (these will be noted in the award letter)
- Attend the Honors and Awards Event “A Reason to Celebrate” on April 17, 2008, at 5:30 p.m.
- Communicate your appreciation to the donor in the form of formal thank you letter
